The New Rich Lifestyle and My Real Life Liberation Timeline
One of the most influential books of it’s day, The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss opened up my world to the concept of the New Rich and living The New Rich Lifestyle. Here’s how it happened and how I did it with a real life Liberation Timeline.
"Gold is getting old. The New Rich (NR) are those who abandon the deferred-life plan and create luxury lifestyles in the present using the currency of the New Rich: time and mobility. This is an art and a science we will refer to as Lifestyle Design (LD)." ~Tim Ferriss
Back in 2009 I was going in to my 14th year of the 9 to 5 grind. Working primarily for two different small companies I had worn many hats and worked many hours helping grow someone else’s business. With a solid work ethic, many valuable skills and extremely loyal I knew I was an asset to anyone’s company. And these were good jobs. Fair and friendly bosses, great working conditions, benefits and a ton of flexibility with in my job as well as my hours. For 8 of those years I was also playing professional tackle football so I was grabbing naps after work, evenings at practice and some long weekends for road trips. Life was hectic, expenses were high and salary was fixed.
My collection of Tim Ferris Books
At some point in early 2009 I came across The 4-Hour Workweek. Without a doubt, this book changed my life from that point forward more than any other book before it. During this time I was commuting a TON so it was Drive Time University with audiobooks up the wazoo. Boy I could never have imagined how much this one was going to change my future. Having grown up in a typical hard working family all I knew was go to school, get a good job, work the rest of your life for someone else, and eventually have enough saved to retire at 65 and THEN go enjoy life with whatever small nest egg you were able to grow. Ugh! What a scam and boy were they wrong!
As many of you know, Tim Ferris describes the “DEAL” step-by-step process you’ll use to reinvent yourself:
D-EFINE your goals.E-LIMINATE distractions to free up time.A-UTOMATE your cash-flow to increase income.L-IBERATE yourself from traditional expectations.
After reading this book, boy did that old belief change fast! Right away I started in motion all the steps and exercises in this book. Things at work to minimize interruptions, increase productivity and make myself invaluable. At home I was formulating a Liberation Timeline, composing a Filling the Void list, working on products I could launch and plans to automate my income.
In the second half of 2009 I followed the exact steps from chapter 12 to set in motion my liberation.
Increase Investment – First week of July 2009
Prove Increased Output Offsite - Second week of July 2009
Prepare the Quantifiable Business Benefit – Third week of July 2009
Propose a Revocable Trial Period – July 27th, 2009
Expand Remote Time – Second week of August 2009
Request Full Time Remote Status – Third week of September 2009
By early 2010 I was working from home part time, eventually adding another day and then two. Also during this year my company move another 45 minutes farther away from my house, so now my commute time doubled. Spending over an hour on the road each way to work and back, and a lot longer in high traffic hours. Tolls alone were over $7.00 a day and gas was right around $4.00 a gallon. Time to get the hell off the road! Voila, Liberation complete; by mid 2010 I was working from home full time.
By the end of 2010 I had seen enough and resigned from my full time job. Having now joined my first MLM that fall I was ready for the New Rich Lifestyle and my Liberation Timeline was a success.
I’m guessing there are millions of people out there looking to do just the exact same thing. It IS possible. You don’t have to quit overnight. Start building your online business today work you own Liberation Timeline. The New Rich Lifestyle is just a step away for you.
